Sabah's first CNY Lantern Festival from Feb 11 to March 3

Kota Kinabalu: In conjunction with the 2018 Chinese New Year celebration, Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Sabah will be holding the State's first Chinese New Year Lantern Festival at its premises at 44, Jalan Bukit Keramat, Km 4, Jalan Tuaran, from Feb 11 to March 3. The free admission lantern exhibition is open from 9.30am to 9.30pm but the lanterns will only be lighted up from 6.30pm onwards. There will also be lion dance performances on Feb 25 at the temple.The launching of the event was held on Sunday, officiated by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister-cum-Minister in Charge of City Hall, Datuk Edward Yong. Also present was Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

When met, Yong said he was glad that the association is holding the exhibition to showcase various types of lanterns, including in the shape of the 12 Chinese Zodiac characters, which can be turned into a tourist attraction in the city."It is the first time such an event is held by Foh Guan Shang in the State which is free for the public and, therefore, an opportunity for all, especially those who haven't been to Taiwan, to see and experience similar lanterns and decoration here in Kota Kinabalu."On top of that, the association informed me of their plan to construct an educational building where they have already come up with the conceptual design to be submitted to City Hall for approval. "If everything goes well, the Government will definitely assist in the matter," he said.
