Lahad Datu: Security forces through the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) will launch two new initiatives to further strengthen security in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone).Internal Security and Public Order Department Director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the Road Check Point (RCP) will be established at Kalabakan, Tawau, Telupid and Beluran.

He said the other one is the Sea Check Point which will be established at Pulau Berhala in Sandakan, Pulau Siamil in Semporna and Pulau Karakit in Kudat.

"The two initiatives are part of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom)'s efforts in preventing smuggling and human trafficking activities.

"They are also aimed at increasing the people's confidence in the sincerity of our security forces who are constantly safeguarding our country.

"We will further discuss this matter with the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) for their collaboration in establishing the Check Points," he told a press conference after chairing a meeting with Esscom and police, here, Friday.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said efforts undertaken by Esscom and security forces have successfully addressed the threat of extremist groups that use Sabah's east coast as a path to another country.

He said the efforts will be continuous in order to ensure that Esszone is safe from any form of threat.

On another note, he said Malaysia will be carrying out operations and exercises with the United States of America (USA) and Interpol in February and March this year.

Zulkifli said through the collaboration, Malaysian security forces will be able to use their technology and exchange skills as well as experience with their foreign counterparts. - Eifa Rizan
