Oustanding operation of Mawilla 2 vessels: Chief

Sandakan: The Second Sea Region Headquarters (Mawilla 2) here now has eight patrol ships, six combat boats (CB90) and five Silverbreeze boats that are capable of carrying out any interception duties swiftly.Mawilla 2 Chief Rear Admiral Datuk Abdul Rahman Ayob said the average monthly operation of each vessel under Mawilla 2 was outstanding, increasing by 80 per cent up to 100 per cent, especially Kapal Diraja (KD) Baung which managed to record the highest number of operating days last year."All the vessels operating complement each other and co-operate diligently as well as receiving asset assistance from the West Armada Command Headquarters in Peninsular Malaysia and ships based at the Kota Kinabalu Royal Navy Base (RMN)," he said.ADVERTISEMENT Abdul Rahman was speaking at the parade inspection ceremony at KD Sri Sandakan Parade Ground and 2018 New Year's message at Dewan Mohd Azim, Taman Samudera, here, Monday.According to him, the location of Mawilla 2 near here was crucial in ensuring any security measures in the form of prevention of follow-up actions could be taken more effectively and efficiently."The operation of the Mawilla 2 here demonstrates a high level of commitment and determination to ensure the security of the East Sabah Security Zone (Esszone)," he said. He added that the position of the headquarters was appropriate based on geo-strategy, geo-politic as well as the increasing the importance of Sulu and Sulawesi seas as one of the main international maritime routes.ADVERTISEMENT He also said the RMN planned to equip the headquarters with more new and advanced assets to ensure no outside forces could trespass and disturb the peace of the country's maritime waters.During the parade, Abdul Rahman also presented United Nations Malbatt 850 Series 4 medals to two personnel who took part in observation missions in a turbulent district South of Lubnan.

Besides that, Abdul Rahman also presented the Bintara Award and Naval Region 2 Headquarters' first quarter of the year "Laskar Kreatif" to two other personnel, Bintara Muda PLM Mohd Anuar Rahmad and LK PLM Shaiful Khohar Che Ku Jalil.Also present were Head of Staff Captain Zahari Samsuri, KD Sri Semporna Commanding Officer Captain Muhammad Rodhi Ariffin, KD Sri Tawau Commanding Officer Commander Noor Azhar Borhan, KD Sri Sandakan Commanding Officer Commander Mohd Fazla Rahim and Naval Base Commanding Officer Tun Sharifah Sharifah Rodziah and Commander Mohd Effendy Mohd Shuib. - Mardinah Jikur
