More Chinese businessmen keen on Sabah

Alor Setar: More China enterprises are interested in Sabah, a promising development that promises more local jobs and boosting the vitality of the local economy, said Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide.He said some large corporations from the world's most populated country of 1.38 billion people have already stationed themselves in the State such as China State Construction Engineering Corporation, China Railway Engineering Corporation, China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, Guangdong Guangken Rubber Group Co. Aside from this, he noted that University of Sabah and Wuyi University in Jiangmen signed a Letter of Intent, making commitments to strengthen research and education programs, teacher-student exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. Also a contract signed he said was between Wuhan Yangtse River Automobile Group and Sabah-based Green Energy Company to cooperate in promoting the electric sightseeing buses.He pointed out that China enterprises' interest in Sabah is understandable as the State is the nearest place to the country in Malaysia. "Against the backdrop of China-Malaysia friendship and the boost of the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Sabah also see closer cooperation and fruitful results in the fields of economy, trade, local governmental exchanges, and personnel exchanges and others," he said.On the work of the Consulate-General, Caide said since its establishment in 2015, it has always been devoted to promoting friendship and win-win cooperation between China and Malaysia, making efforts to serve the role as the boat of friendship and the bridge of cooperation.As for Sabah, he said the Consulate-General cares about its people and brings warmth to those in need through visits to welfare homes, joining charity run, supporting fundraising dinners and charity activities. "We also donated fund, medical and rehabilitation equipment to charity organisations such as Kinabalu Pink Ribbon and Sabah Thalassemia Society. "In the aftermath of earthquake, hurricanes and other natural disasters, the Consulate General lent a helping hand to the affected schools immediately. Traditional Chinese culture emphasises morality and affection, advocating care for the people of the world. The Consulate General is willing to make positive contribution to the community of Sabah," he said.He disclosed that in 2017, the Consulate General issued a total of 25,072 visas and 330 travel documents and processed 639 sets of document authentication and notarisation, greatly facilitating the personnel exchanges between the two places. His office also handled more than 170 consular protection cases. "We are keen on looking for visiting and inspection opportunities for government officials, entrepreneurs, educators and media to visit China, and providing relevant information and convenience. "We also facilitated the Chinese Cultural Land Learning Camp and the Famous Speaking Tour of Chinese Education to come to Sabah for the purpose of cultural and educational exchanges.
