'Run To Include' in S'kan Feb 11

Kota Kinabalu: The 20th anniversary celebrations of Special Olympics Sabah will kick off with a special fund-raising event called "Run To Include". The run to be held on Feb 11 in Sandakan will be followed by a Sabah-wide Sports Carnival in March, also to be hosted by Sandakan. Special Olympics Sandakan Chairman cum Acting President of Special Olympics Sabah, Taren Sunil Manoharan said the theme "Run To Include" was chosen to encourage society as a whole to embrace those who are different from them which in this case are the intellectually challenged.

"We have paid a courtesy call on the President of the Sandakan Municipal Council Datuk James Wong and he has expressed his support for the event," said Taren who led a delegation to update the SMC President on the event.Meanwhile Taren urged members of the public as well as associations, voluntary bodies and schools to come to support their fund-raising effort."We are a voluntary organisation dedicated to organising activities for the intellectually challenged members of our society. It is our firm belief that, just like the rest of us, they should be given every opportunity to enjoy sports and other healthy activities.

However, as a non-profit voluntary body, we need to source funds to implement our activities. As such, we are organising this charity event to finance our 2018 activities," said Taren.

The "Run To Include" will start at 6am from the Piaza Area, Sandakan Harbour Mall. Three categories of competition are scheduled – 3km, 10km and 20km run challenges. Participants will have to fill in the forms and pay an entry fee of RM80 per person for adults, RM55 for students and RM45 for adults accompanying an OKU.
