RM60,000 CBT: Former lawyer is charged

style="text-transform: uppercase;">Kuala Lumpur: A former property lawyer was charged in the Sessions Court here with committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving the sale and purchase of a house worth nearly RM60,000.Yap Ooi Lye, 37, who is serving a five-year jail sentence at Kajang Prison for committing a similar offence, claimed trial before judge Azman Ahmad on Thursday.

Yap was the advocate and solicitor with a firm entrusted with the control of a customer's bank account, and was said to have committed CBT amounting to RM59,550.71 paid by one Mohamed Burkhannuden Jafarullah Khan, 45, for the purchase of a house in Metro Prima here.

The money was supposed to be given to the sellers, school bus operator Nordin Md Noh, 59, and his wife Natinah Mohamed Shaari, 49.

The offence was allegedly committed at law firm Jenny Yap and Associates in Taman Usahawan, Kepong here between Nov 10, 2014 and Jan 17, 2017.
