Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said it is a responsibility for Gabungan Sabah to claim Sepanggar Parliamentary constituency and its State constituencies in the coming general election. The incumbent Member of Parliament for Sepanggar is Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Jumat Idris from while Datuk Jainab Ahmad, also from BN, is the Karambunai assemblyman, and the Inanam assemblyman is Dr Roland Chia from PKR.

Gabungan Sabah comprises Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah (PPRS) and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah.

Yong, who is also Gabungan Sabah Sepanggar Chairman, said the coalition's machinery is generally ready to face the election albeit "there are still things yet to be done."

"There are some polling districts where the machinery is not completed in terms of skills, manpower, and ideas," he said at the Gabungan Sabah Sepanggar machinery launch and the closing of the polling and counting agent (Paca) course, at the Taman Putrajaya hall, Telipok, here, Saturday.

"As such, this matter will be tackled in the coming months. After the Gabungan Sabah Sepanggar launch today (Saturday), we will then help other areas where their election machineries have yet to be completed."

He also urged all coalition members to conduct a through analysis on its strength, weakness, threat and opportunity in each contested seat.

"And this analysis should not only focus on Gabungan Sabah but also on other rival political parties," he said.

He also reiterated the coalition's call for the people to reject any peninsula-based parties or local parties which are not allied with Gabungan Sabah.

"Kuala Lumpur aims to disunite the people of Sabah through the various political parties in the State.

"However, Gabungan Sabah managed to unite some of these parties as we believe on the one-on-one contest, and the Borneo Agenda versus Malaya Agenda.

"Those parties which refused to join Gabungan Sabah are Malayan agents…and that is why we must reject all of such agents," he said. - Ricardo Unto
