Kota Kinabalu: The all-new Subaru XV is finally launched in the State by Sebangga Auto, the appointed sole dealer for Subaru in Labuan and Sabah. The new XV, the second model to employ the revolutionary Subaru Global Platform, will deliver less shake and less body roll.

The Subaru Global Platform dramatically increases the rigidity throughout the body and chassis by over 70 per cent compared to previous model, thus reducing vibrations and body roll, and producing a quietest and smooth ride.

The 2.0-litre Naturally Aspirated Boxer engine remains the same from the original model.

However, 80 per cent of the mill's part has been revised which decreases 12kg compared to its predecessor.

The flat-four produces an output of 156ps at 6,000 rpm and 196Nm at 4,000 rpm.

The engine is mated to a Lineartronic CVT, which is equipped with auto-step shift control as well as a seven-speed manual control.

This means the whole unit is 7.8kg lighter than the previous generation. Additionally, the gear ratio has been widened and the chain pitch has been reduced by 10 per cent to improve fuel efficiency.

Subaru's legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive drivetrain is now equipped with X-Mode for better control over loose terrains as well as Active Torque Vectoring, which is now finally stepping up its ability in line with the Forester.

The interior tells a different story for the 2018 XV. The dashboard is now fully adopted from the latest WRX with extra additions to the spiced-up cabin in theme with car's active lifestyle learnings with orange contrast stitching on seats and door cards.

The 2.0i-P also gets orange stitching on the dashboard as well as gloss black/silver and carbon-fibre plastic trim elements, as opposed to the silver and carbon-fibre wrap which adorns the 2.0i.

The steering wheel is now smaller to provide a snappier feel with the 2.0i wrapped with PU material while the 2.0i-P is leather wrapped.

The handbrake unit from the previous model is replaced to a modern electronic parking brake with hill-hold assist feature built-in.

The 2.0i will come with automatic air-conditioning while the 2.0i-P will offer the dual-zone system as well as adding on a 6.3-inch multi-function display for X-mode and aluminium pedals.

However, cruise control, eight-inch touchscreen display, six-speaker audio system with Bluetooth connectivity, an 8-inch touch-screen display infotainment system, power-adjustable driver's seat, paddle shifters and a rear-view camera will standard for both models.

As for safety equipment, the XV will come with seven airbags (front, front side, front/rear curtain and knee), ABS with EBD, Brake assists, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and rear Isofix child seat anchors.

Externally, both variants look similar except that the 2.0i-P comes with auto-levelling LED headlings with C-shaped LED daytime running lights, chrome window line trim and silver roof rails, which are black on the 2.0i.

There will be six colours available for the 2018 Subaru XV, and they are Sunshine orange, Dark Blue Pearl, Pure White, Ice Silver Metallic, Dark Grey Metallic, and Crystal Black Silica.

Sebangga Auto Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Arif Ambrose Ng said 30 cars are targeted to be ordered per month in East Malaysia.

"As of now, there are close to 20 bookings already made and the cars are expected to arrive in January.

However, the production will be slower compared to other models and therefore stocks will be limited," he said during a press conference, here, Saturday.

Also present at the launch were Sebangga Auto Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Syahrin Masri.

The 2018 Subaru XV is now available in all outlets in the country. For inquiries, contact Sebangga Auto Sdn Bhd at 088-309888 (Kota Kinabalu), 089-232888 (Sandakan), or 087-410888 (Labuan) for more information. - Locksley Ng
