Private consumption growth reflects consumer confidence

Kuala Lumpur: Growth in the private consumption of 7.2 per cent clearly shows that consumer confidence is rising as Malaysians are more comfortable to spend their money as their income increase and in expectations of higher income in the future, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan.BNM Friday released Malaysia's third quarter (Q3) economic performance data which saw real gross domestic product (GDP) grow by 6.2 per cent, the fastest quarterly growth since the Q2 of 2014.Abdul Rahman said the stronger pace of growth was propelled by both sustained domestic demand and improved external sector.ADVERTISEMENT Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Higher economic activities in services, manufacturing and agriculture sectors were the key engines that drove the economy in the Q3," he said in a statement.Abdul Rahman added that Malaysia's GDP growth this quarter was also among the fastest in the Asian region, faster than Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea and Taiwan, as well as, faster than the developed economies such as the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom. – Bernama
