MACC raids Shafie's house in KK
Kota Kinabalu: Graft investigators raided the house of Parti Warisan Sabah President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal after he was discharged from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Saturday.Shafie, who spent two of his four-day remand at the hospital for hypertension, was discharged at 2pm and was immediately taken to his residence in Taman Golf View here as part of investigations into the alleged skimming of RM1.5 billion funds for rural development projects in Sabah.

It was learnt that the investigators took him back to the Sabah Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office for further questioning.

Shafie was arrested on Oct 19 but was immediately taken to hospital as he suffered from high blood pressure.

He was produced before Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus, who ordered for the four-day remand until Monday, but allowed him to seek treatment at the hospital.

MACC sources have said that their investigations were hindered because they were unable to carry out standard operating procedures to check on Shafie's house in Kota Kinabalu, Semporna and Kuala Lumpur without his presence.

Meanwhile, the remand for Lahad Datu Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal, who was detained to assist investigations on rural project fund embezzlement in Sabah, has been extended by two days starting Saturday.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus issued the order on the younger brother of the former federal Minister at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court here after his remand expired Saturday.

MACC prosecuting officer Mohd Faliq Basiruddin, when met by reporters after the extended remand order was issued by the court, said MACC had applied for the remand on Mohd Yusof to be extended by seven days but the court only allowed two days.

Mohd Yusof, 57, was one of nine individuals detained by MACC to assist investigations over the alleged misappropriation of rural project funds amounting to RM180 million which was part of the RM1.5 billion embezzled from a federal ministry.

He was investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009.

The RM1.5 billion fund was part of the Federal Government's allocation through a ministry totalling RM7.5 billion for rural projects in Sabah from 2009 to 2015.
