Kuala Lumpur: Two Malaysian players will face off in the men's singles semi-finals Friday to assure the country of a final slot in the 2017 Malaysian Open Squash Championships at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil. In the quarter-finals, national junior champion, Ivan Yuen subdued compatriot Sanjay Singh Chal in straight sets, 12-10, 11-5, 11-3 at Nicol David Arena.

Tournament fourth seed Ivan will be meeting another national player Ng Eain Yow in the semi-finals Friday.

Ng defeated sixth seed Mazen Gamal of Egypt 13-11, 3-11, 11-6,11-1.

Ivan believed it would be a tough match against Ng as both were out to snag the berth to the final.

"He is a superb national player. I will focus on my game and do not want to be unduly pressured tomorrow," he told reporters.

On his chances now that the top two seeded players had been eliminated, Ivan said the battle would still be the same.

Meanwhile Ng said he had cleared an important hurdle to ensure the national squad maintained its presence in the championships. – Bernama
