Muaythai exponents capture three golds

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Muaythai exponents returned with three gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the Borneo Cup Muaythai Championships held at Naim StreetMall/Naim Bintulu Paragon in Bintulu recently.Sabah Muaythai Association President Nazri Ab Razak was pleased with the result and overall performance delivered from the contingent which comprised of athletes from the Sukma project, State elite and State youth squads.

The three gold medals were won by Shah Aryan Shahzam who is under the Sukma project programme in the 44kg category, youth squad member Nurfaiz ISkandar Daud in the 38-40kg and elite athlete Nur Naznerah Jailuddin in the women 45kg.

The sole silver came from elite athlete Nur Sofie Baizurien Beddu in the women 60kg while the three bronze medal contributors were Alexis Akan from the elite squad in the 63kg, Mohd Rizal, another Sukma project athlete in the 68kg and elite athlete Mohd Izarul in the 63kg.

Nazri said their participation in the championship was part of their phase one training programme for the athletes to maintain their competitive edge.

Their next assignment is the Sabah Muaythai Youth Championship to be held at the Sabah Muaythai Camp in Papar from October 24-26 followed by the 2nd National Inter-Club Championship organised by Malaysia Muaythai Association on November 30-December 3 in the Peninsula while elite athlete Mohamad Shah Ahmad will be vying for the Johor Menteri Besar belt in the 60kg category at the Johor Muaythai Open championship on October 28. - GL Oh
