Gavin hopeful of first CIMB Classic title
Published on: Thursday, October 12, 2017

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia's top golfer Gavin Kyle Green is hoping to be the first Malaysian to win the CIMB Classic, starting today (Thursday) until Oct 15 at TPC Kuala Lumpur, in Bukit Kiara.

The 23-year-old golfer who represented Malaysia at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, has so far had a strong year by winning his first Asian Tour title at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters on Oct 1.

"Of course it's a huge thing (become a champion) and it's a huge deal for Malaysia, but at the same time I'm here to do my job.

"Obviously it would be nice to win, but I'm just here to go out and shoot a score, play the best I can and we'll see where that leads," he told reporters at a press conference here, Wednesday.

Green who is currently enjoying a good run, will tee-off Thursday in the same flight with defending champion, Justin Thomas of United States (USA) and rookie Xander Schauffele (USA).

"It's been a very big year. I just got my Asian Tour card, I made a couple of cuts and was consistent.

Then started to finish second, second, and then thankfully a win came in the last two weeks. – Bernama
