Borneo Football Cup 2017 kicks off today

Kota Kinabalu: The 10th anniversary of the 2017 Malaysia Borneo Football Cup competition that initiated by former Sabah Rhinos great Scott Ollerenshaw will be kicking off today with the under-11 category at the Penampang Stadium.Six categories will be staged that will run from today until Oct 7 featuring teams from Malaysia, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines & India.

Eight teams will be competing in the under-11 category and they are divided into two group with group A consist of Caloundra (Australia), Astam SS (Indonesia), Jubilo (Malaysia), Tabs (Malaysia) while teams in group B are MMT Junior (Malaysia), Tabs Manggatal (Malaysia), Kid Ball (Malaysia), Dream Football United (Philippines).

The opening match is between Caloundra from Australia and Astam SS from Indonesia starting at 10am.

Eight opening and second round matches will be staged today followed by the third and semi finals tomorrow at the same venue before the play-offs and final to be held at the Likas Stadium on Wednesday (September 26).

Meanwhile Scott said the tournament this year will be dedicated to two late Australian Football media icons Les Murray and Mike Cockerill , who both passed away recently.

Les Murray had twice attended Borneo Cup as guest while Mike Cockerill was supposed to attend this year's meet. - GL Oh
