Kunak: The District Education Office will investigate claims that four male students of SMK Kunak Jaya were forced by their discipline teacher to shave their heads, apparently for sporting long hair.District Education Officer Raduan Abd Rahman said he has not received precise information regarding the matter that went viral on Facebook.

"I will get my officers to find out what happened", he said.

Raduan, who is away in Kota Kinabalu, said if the claims are true, it probably involved only a few students and not all as claimed.

All schools in the district have responsible teachers in their counseling and discipline units, where the teachers will ensure all students abide by the school regulations, he said.

Parents also play a major role in disciplining their children and they should not solely rely on teachers to do so, he added.

Raduan said the facebook account holder should be responsible for anything he posts and make sure all information is valid before posting.

The information may be exaggerated to a point where it aroused suspicion and tarnished the school's reputation, he said.

He recalled that in the bullying incident involving female students, including from SMK Kunak Jaya, that happened few months ago that went viral on social media, it took place in town and not in the school.

"One must be responsible when it comes to spreading information to the public" said Raduan. - Ibrahim Tabir
