Kota Kinabalu: Mostwell Sdn Bhd, namely Epal Handicraft Training Centre (EHTC), along with other agencies made the nation proud as they scooped yet another Guinness World Record for having the most hand and machine-sewn cloth flowers. Its Kota Kinabalu Epal Manager Moirin Dauni said the agency was awarded three times in 2015 for sewing the biggest bag in the world made of various clothing materials.

She said the other two awards were for "The Most Quilt Stitching Bags in the World" and sewing more than 60,000 handmade fabric flowers.

More than 1,400 people were involved in producing the records that are now on display in Suria Shopping Mall until Sept 26 along with other creative handicrafts made from recycled fabrics, she said.

"The World Guinness Book Record exhibits on display are just a portion because we have a total of 63,682 fabric flowers that were handmade as it is too much to bring them all to the mall.

"There are a few agencies involved in this achievement, including EHTC branch in Tawau, secondary students from feveral schools, Single Mothers Association, special needs people (OKU) and even housewives," she told Daily Express.

She added that the objective of the creations is to bring people together to share the same interest in stitching and sewing.

During the exhibition, around 2,000 handicrafts will be displayed, including handbags made out of recycled denim fabric, plastic wrappers and newspapers.

"Some of the handbags displayed were also made by man to exhibit their sewing skills and creativity," she said.

Other than the crafts, Moirin said EHTC is also giving a free seven-day stitching lesson to anyone interested in making the sewing as a new hobby or profession. - Jeremy S Zabala
