Kota Kinabalu: The decision by the Insolvency Department to declare Sabah opposition leader-cum-Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat) President Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin bankrupt was due to the legal notice being "overlooked". Its Vice President Patrick Sadom, said in a statement, Wednesday, that his side also looked at the issue as an effort by certain parties to bring down the image and credibility of the party's president who wanted to fight for the rights of Sabahans.

"I understand that the issue, especially those involving payments to parties concerned had been 'overlooked' by accountants managing the president's finances.

"We also know that everyone has the responsibility and not everyone is free from debt but he (Lajim) does not involve the people in his personal affairs," he said.

"This is a personal issue rather than an issue involving the party, he is still able to carry out his duties and serve the people.

"Hence, we in Harapan Rakyat urge all parties not to politicise this, we are confident that this issue will be resolved in the near future," he said.

A legal notice by the Insolvency Department had listed the Opposition leader as a 'bankrupt'.

It was reported that the notice attributed to the Department's Sabah Director Monica Linsua who was quoted as saying that payments owed by him should be paid to the department first following a High Court Order that was made on his bankruptcy status on Sept 14, this year.
