Trader jailed, fined for stealing two car tyres and rims

Kota Kinabalu: A 55-year-old trader was jailed 24 months and fined RM3,000 or six months' jail for stealing two car tyres and rims.Yusuf Maskin pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence with an accomplice still at large at 5.30pm on Sept 17 at a house in Kg Kionsom, Inanam. Insp Suzie Kupit, prosecuting, told the court that one Neldi Adar Salim was informed by his wife of two men stealing the tyres from their house.

Neldi rushed out and shouted at the men who were in a vehicle. One of the men seated at the driver seat ran away leaving the car and his friend, later identified as Yusuf, who was seated at the front passenger seat.

Neldi also noticed the tyres and its rims at the truck of the vehicle.

Yusuf alighted from the car and approached Neldi, who managed to seize the vehicle's key from the ignition.

A scuffle ensued between them when Neldi tried to nab Yusuf but a patrolling police who happened to pass by helped detained Yusuf.

Yusuf, who was not represented, requested for leniency saying he was the sole breadwinner to his family.

He was charged under Section 379A of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between a year and seven years and liability of a fine on conviction. In another case, a 35-year-old labourer claimed trial to burglary.

Supriadi Arjo is accused of breaking into the Kemas kindergarten in Pasir Putih Putatan and stealing a laptop, a set of computer, a unit of speaker and some cash between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on Nov 2, 2016.

The court set Oct 23 for case management and released Supriadi, who was not represented, on a bail of RM4,000 in two sureties. Meanwhile, a 20-year-old, Thameson Jonoton, pleaded not guilty to having a stolen motorcycle.

Thameson is accused of having one Yulanding Abd Wahid's Modenas Kriss motorcycle at 6.30am on Sept 11 at Kg Bantayan, in Inanam.

He was offered bail at RM3,000 in two sureties pending mention on Oct 25.
