Kuala Lumpur: Media Prima Bhd will invest more resources into the digital portion of its business, en route to increasing revenue contribution from the segment to 20 per cent in three years. Managing Director Datuk Kamal Khalid said at present, the contribution from this segment stood at between five and 10 per cent, while the traditional business, which comprised print and television segments accounted for 75 per cent.

"We are also looking at posting a triple-digit growth for advertising expenditure this year.

For television stations, you have to invest in deejay conti and transmission charges, which can run into ten of millions (of ringgit). For this, you don't need that, you just need a server," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Media Prima's digital arm, Media Prima Digital (MPD) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) here yesterday.

Through this MoU, both parties will commercialise local game development, expand the ecosystem and accelerate the sector's productivity, with MPD evaluating and publishing digital games that MDEC has selected and developed with local publishers.

Kamal also said applications and games have a very high upside potential if the company were to invest in the right place. – Bernama
