'Bogus lawyer' charged over con at Suhakam office

Kota Kinabalu: A 32-year-old local was charged in the Magistrate's Court here with cheating two people by posing as a lawyer and promising to settle the cases of their children.Trader Nijar Sazali, who was brought before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie pleaded not guilty to the two counts against him.The first and second count stated that Nijar is accused of cheating one Yusof Insiu and one Amil Kadra Abu Bakar by making them believe that he was a Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) lawyer and could release of their children from court proceedings.

This caused Yusof and Amil to give RM3,750 and RM800, respectively to Nijar at 10am on July 10 at the Suhakam office on the eight floor of the Centre Point Sabah complex.Each offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a jail term of between one and 10 years, and whipping and fine, on conviction.The court set Sept 15 for case management and offered Nijar bail at RM1,500 in two sureties on each count.Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was jailed five years and ordered to be caned three times for taking drugs for the third time.

Asri Kadir admitted to committing the offence at 2.03pm on July 22 in Penampang.Another man, Wera Danan, 29, was handed eight months taking taking drugs on May 27 here.

In the same court, 30-year-old Mohd Affendi Selamat was sentenced to 12 months' jail for having 0.10gm of syabu at 4pm on April 29 at Kg Lembaga Padi, Inanam.In another court, three Filipinos were jailed four months each to staying in the State illegally.Saibudin Alali, 53, Jaim Sasani, 30, and Najar Amid, 35, pleaded guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to committing the offence here last month.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
