Kota Kinabalu: Only three districts remain affected by the recent flash floods – Penampang, Papar and Kota Belud.State Secretary cum State Disaster Management Committee Chairman Tan Sri Sukarti Wakiman (pic) said as of noon, Tuesday, three relief centres in the three districts were open to provide temporary shelter to flood victims.He advised residents, especially in the affected districts, to always be wary of weather reports issued by the Malaysia Metrological Department so that they can be watchful and take necessary action.

"If incessant rain continues for a certain long period of time and there are signs of water rising, then the residents or villagers in the affected districts should be alert. If they are asked to leave their houses, they should render cooperation to the relevant authorities."At the same time, they must make sure all important documents like identification cards as well as those belonging to their family members and other relevant documents are kept in a special bag that can be brought along during operations to relocate them to relief centres.
"The respective District Disaster Management Committee will inform the residents through their Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Chairpersons on the location of the relief centre as provided by the committee," he said, in a statement.

Sukarti said the Disaster Operation Control Centre in those districts have been activated to coordinate with rescue and assistance by the departments and agencies under the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD).

He also reminded all departments and agencies involved in the committee to always be fully ready and on standby when conducting regular monitoring and channelling aid to the flood victims and helping in relocating them to the relief centres.
