Search for student suspended

Labuan: After seven days with no new leads, the search and rescue team here has suspended its operation for the missing 16-year-old SMK Mutiara student.However, the monitoring will continue, confirmed Labuan Fire and Rescue Services Department (JBPM).Mohd Shahrul Iskandar Imran, from Kg Sg Labu, was feared to have drowned while swimming with four friends around 3pm off Taman Damai beach near Kg Layangan, here, last Sunday.ADVERTISEMENT Authorities used patrol and intercept boats, jet ski and drone to scour more than 92 kilometres of coastline but failed to find any trace of the teenager.The operation was led by police and assisted by JBPM, Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency, Marine Department, Labuan Liberty Port Management Sdn Bhd (LLPM), Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd, individuals, villagers and fishermen.There are no words to describe how heartbroken the victim's family is, but his mother has conveyed to Labuan Police Chief ACP Adzhar Othman that she did not want her son's image to be photographed when he is found, in any circumstance, for fear that internet users would unconcernedly "make it viral" on social media. Meanwhile, police urged the public to immediately contact the nearest police station should they have or obtain any information on the case.
