Kota Kinabalu: Allowing Muslim women to don headscarves, including in the hotel industry, is among seven motions tabled at the Wanita Umno Sepanggar representatives meeting. "We reject the actions of any party that discriminates against the rights of Muslim women.

Islam is the official religion of the country. At the same time, other religions can be practised by its adherents," said Wanita Umno Sepanggar committee member Fauziah Sarisakti.

Fauziah said Sabah Wanita Umno will continue its undivided support to Datuk Seri Najib Razak as Umno President and BN Chairman, and defend him as he continues to lead the country as Prime Minister.

"Wanita Umno also likewise will continue to give its support to the leadership of Datuk Seri Musa Aman as Sabah Umno Liaison Chairman cum Chief Minister and Tan Sri Shahrizat Abd Jalil to lead Wanita Umno as its Chief."

Fauziah said Sabah Wanita Umno also supported the 20 names of the Sabah Barisan Nasional Wanita candidates with potential to be chosen to contest in the 14th General Election.

She said Wanita Umno Sepanggar proposed that Umno Sepanggar Deputy Chief, Datuk Yakub Khan, be considered as the MP candidate for Sepanggar. Wanita Umno Sepanggar will support if he was chosen as the Umno Sepanggar Chief for the next term.

"Wanita Umno Sepanggar will continue to also support and defend Datuk Jainab Ahmad Ayid as the candidate and Assemblywoman in Karambunai and as Wanita Umno Sepanggar Chief.

She said Wanita Umno also wants cases of bullying, violations, abuse of children and adolescents to not be underestimated.

Also present was Jainab and Umno Supreme Council member cum Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Sri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

Meanwhile, Tajuddin voiced his support for the motion for Muslim women wearing headscarves to be allowed to work in any industry.

"They cannot force them to remove their headscarves at work," he said and called on the Government to take action against any business or premises that forced women workers to stop using their headscarves at work.

He also took a swipe at Parti Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, saying whatever predicted and promised by Shafie would not materialise. - Neil Chan
