Two brothers held over sundry shop robbery

Penampang: Police have arrested two brothers linked to an armed robbery at a sundry shop in broad daylight at the Salut Commercial Centre along Jalan Sepanggar on June 23. The two local siblings, aged 22 and 24, were also found to be positive for drugs when they were picked up for questioning on June 24.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Ramli Din in a media conference here on Tuesday said their arrests followed a report lodged by the 28-year-old shop owner who was robbed at knife point while manning the premises at about 11.50am.

Initial investigations showed that one man entered the premises on the pretence of buying something before threatening the woman with a knife, while the other waited in a car. The duo fled with RM200 and the woman's bracelet worth RM1,200.

The younger sibling was nabbed at about 1am on June 24 at Taman Sri Rugading and a Perodua Viva believed used as the getaway vehicle was also seized.

The older sibling was nabbed an hour later at Pekan Manggatal.

Police however believe another accomplice may be involved and are keen on meeting one Apel @ Narofil, 20, to facilitate investigations.

On another note, Ramli said, a majority of cases reported across the State involved thefts most times are committed by those involved in substance abuse. - Sherell Ann Jeffrey
