Lahad Datu: A 22-year-old jobless man is believed to have stabbed his brother-in law to death at an unnumbered house in Kampung Sabah Baru on Friday.

Ronston Tunai, 29, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. There were seven stab wounds, one on his neck, four on his chest and two on his back.

District Acting Police Chief, ASP Fadzil Ali, when contacted, said preliminary investigation found that the victim was sleeping on the living room when the incident occurred at 3pm. The incident was heard by the suspect's brother in law who tried to stop the suspect, but failed as he continued to stab the victim.

"The victim tried to escape but the suspect continued to give chase. One of the villagers who saw the incident went to help the victim and arrested the suspect," he said, adding that the suspect was taken to police station while the victim sent to hospital for treatment.

According to Fadzil, the victim arrived at the hospital at 4.15pm but died while receiving treatment at 5.20pm.

Fadzil said investigations revealed that the suspect and the victim never had a misunderstanding nor involved in fights before. The suspect was believed to be under the influence of drugs during the incident.

He was detained for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code. - Efa Rizan
