Kota Kinabalu: Sabah President Cup selection swept past a hapless Sarawak Super League reserves side 6-1 in a friendly match played at the UMS Stadium, Friday night.

The home side, with the added input from five senior players led by former skipper Leopold Alphonso and fellow teammates Ricco Nigel Milus, Azlan Zainal, Rahman Shah Marajeh, Azwan Fattah proved too hot for their opponents on the night.

The visitors who lost 1-2 in their first friendly to the senior Sabah Rhinos on Wednesday night took to the pitch with all local players and they were able to hold Sabah 1-1 after the first interval.

Sabah's junior player Fazriel Hanafi Stephanus who was grounded by the team management in the previous two league matches was given the nod to start the match and he repaid the faith with the opening goal before Rodney Celvin Akwensivie equalised for Sarawak.

The second half saw Sabah stepped up another gear to take control of the match. However, despite their total dominance, they were unable to find the net again until the introduction of Fazile Jamileh.

They immediately went 3-1 up with the two goals netted by the youngster who only joined the President Cup squad in mid season.

His goals also helped to unlock the floodgate as the team added three more through Asmizan Ruslih and Stanley Sulong who put his name on the score sheet with two in the closing stages.

The match was supposed to be held at the Likas Stadium but faulty lighting system forced the change of venue at the eleventh hour.

The second friendly between the two senior sides which was also scheduled to be held in Likas tonight is likely to be held at the UMS Stadium as well. - GL Oh
