Safa signs MACC corruption-free pledge

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) has signed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) Corruption-Free Pledge on Friday.The signing ceremony was held at the Maksak hall here in Likas witnessed by MACC Sabah Director Datuk Sazali Saibi and Safa Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang.Present were some of the top officials, coaches and players from the Premier League, President Cup and the Youth Cup competitions.

Sazali in his speech praised Safa led by its President, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman for their stand against corruption."The signing of IBR (Corruption Free Pledge) today is to ensure that the association administration would be implemented in a transparent and free from the influence of corruption and abuse of power."I must congratulate the leaders in the association as well as officials, coaches and players for their positive response in welcoming the pledge of a corruption-free initiative spearheaded by the MACC."This is clear indication of the continued support for the efforts undertaken by the commission to ensure football teams under Safa is clean and free from corruption and abuse of power."

He stressed that it is important for the players to stay clean so that public can have trust and confidence in them otherwise the sport will lose its beauty.He also hoped the pledge will instil a sense of honesty and a sense of personal ownership and responsibility in each individual so that they are completely free from any influence of corruption and abuse of power. - GL Oh
