Jailed for attempted assault

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed Filipino who attempted to assault a security guard of a housing construction site here with a knife was sent to prison for 12 months.Al-hajir Hajul, 30, admitted to trying to assault one Umar Ahmad with the weapon at 2.30am on May 2 at the Taman Casa Palma construction site in Kolombong.The offence under Section 324/511 of the Penal Code carries up to five years' jail or fine or whipping or any two of such punishment, if convicted.

Inspector Rasydan Jasni, prosecuting, told Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun that Umar, who spotted Al-hajir's presence at the site, warned him not to trespass and wanted to nab him. Umar managed to apprehend Al-hajir and handed him to police.While waiting for the police to come, Al-hajir told Umar that he would look for him after he is released from prison.The court ordered Al-hajir to serve the sentence consecutively with his present jail term for illegal entry and referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.– Jo Ann Mool
