Kota Kinabalu: The United Sabah Ethnic Bumiputera Council (Magebs) voiced full support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman and their continued leadership. Magebs Chairman Datuk Abdullah Sibil said the Council is declaring their undivided support for the Barisan Nasional under the leadership of the two leaders.

"At the state level, Musa has done a lot for Sabah and we fully support him to continue helming the state leadership," he said.

The sentiment was also echoed by the leaders of the 30 associations present during the luncheon meeting with Musa at his official residence in Sri Gaya, Thursday.

Meanwhile, Musa said one of Sabah's greatest assets is the diversity of ethnicities living in peace and harmony.

He said unity was also crucial to the development of the State and the wellbeing of its people.

"This unity in diversity is our strength and must be maintained if our State is to progress and prosper," he said.

He said the prevailing harmony must be closely guarded and not allow irresponsible quarters to play up racial and ethnic sentiments.

"We do not want to end up like certain countries where civil war is an everyday thing, causing instability and misery to the people" he said.

Musa, who is also State Finance Minister, said the Barisan Nasional Government under the leadership of Najib has been attentive to the needs and requests from Sabah, including for allocations such as roads, flyovers, schools, hospitals and other major infrastructure projects.

He said these included the Pan Borneo Highway project that will create greater connectivity between major districts and improve the welfare of the people, adding that the project was part of BN's manifesto during the last election.

"It must be noted that the people have requested for this highway for a long time and only the present PM is bold and generous enough to grant this project that cost billions," he said.

He said the State Government will continue to implement its Halatuju as well as poverty eradication programmes such as Mesej and programmes for youth and women, including single mothers.

He said the State Government is also focusing on more opportunities in the oil and gas sector and its globally recognised conservation efforts.

"It is very easy for those who are no longer with the Government to promise you the moon and stars without giving you the real picture of what is possible and practical instead of just lip service," he said.

Also present was Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Among the associations present were ethnic groups from Bajau Sama, Masyarakat Brunei Sabah, Cocos, Suang Lotud, Idahan, Iranun, Bugis, Lundayeh, Tidung, Kedayan, Tindal, Orang Sungai, Murut Paluan, Rungus, Warisan Etnik Buludupi.
