Bribery: Two NRD staff in Semporna remanded

Tawau: Two National Registration Department (NRD) staff at its Semporna office were remanded for five days until May 1 for allegedly asking and receiving a bribe of RM2,000 to process the MyKad applications of 12-year-old local twins.The first suspect, a 40-year-old woman, was detained by a team from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) while receiving the money meant for issuing the document for the twins, a boy and a girl, at the Semporna town area at 6pm on Wednesday.The second suspect, a 45-year-old man, was detained by the same team while receiving RM2,000 from the first suspect about 8.20pm for the same intention, on the same day.

Magistrate Muhammad Faizal Che Saad granted the remand application by MACC officer Shani Mandu, Thursday, to enable the case to be further investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Both suspects arrived separately at the Tawau Court compound at 3.22pm in a MACC van and car escorted by MACC officers, respectively, and hid their faces from the camera.They left the court about 4.25pm after the proceedings. - Lagatah Toyos
