Najib wants speedy probe

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wants the investigation into the death of 11-year-old Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi to be accelerated.Mohamad Thaqif, who was allegedly abused by an assistant warden at a religious school in Kota Tinggi, died on Wednesday.

He earlier had both legs amputated due to an infection and was about to have his right arm amputated when the operation had to be aborted as his heart rate and condition were not stable.

"I want the investigations into the case to be accelerated so that we know the cause of his death and for legal action to be taken if there was an offence," Najib said on his Facebook page on Wednesday.

He also expressed condolences to Mohamad Thaqif's family.

"I am sad to receive news on Mohd Thaqif Amin's death at the Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Baru.

Condolences to the family," he said.

He added that Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Islamic Affairs Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki would represent him at the funeral of Mohamad Thaqif.

Meanwhile, the police have classified the case as murder. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

In his Twitter account Wednesday, he said: "PDRM (the Royal Malaysia Police) extends its condolences to the family of this son. PDRM will get a full medical report and will complete the investigations the soonest possible."
