Tawau: A Form Four student of SMK Kuhara, here, was beaten to death by an 18-year old suspect who objected the victim's relationship with his 15-year old sister in an incident at a field near the Taman Gembira housing area.District Police Chief ACP Fadil Marsus said the victim Mohd Ayieruchizamsyah Lambang, 16, third of five siblings, was found dead in his room at Kg Pisang at about 7.30am on Monday by his mother who came to wake him up.

The mother informed police that her son returned home at 7.30pm on Sunday with a bruised cheek and bloody nose.

The victim told her that he was beaten up by an unknown man. He then went into his bedroom and laid on the floor at 8pm.

"However, the victim was found lifeless by the mother when she tried to wake him up at 7.30am on Monday," he said, adding that physical inspection found that the victim's body had bruises on his nape, left lips and scratches on his forehead.

Following the police report lodged by the victim's family, the suspect, an undocumented labourer was detained after he was handed over by members of the public at about 10.45am at Kg Pisang to a team of policemen.

According to a statement by the suspect, the deceased came to Kg Sentosa near the field of Taman Gembira housing area at about 6pm on Sunday to meet his sister and he (the suspect) scolded the duo when he saw them together.

"The suspect asked the deceased where he wanted to bring his sister but the frightened victim refused to answer.

"The suspect then ordered his sister to go home and punched the victim on his left cheek and the victim tried to run.

"Then, the suspect took a piece of wood and beat the victim on the back of his neck.

The victim fell to the ground while trying to escape because of the wet grass in the field," he said.

He added that the victim managed to escape home after two men at the area got in the way of the suspect.

Fadil said the motive was the sister's relationship with the victim because she had run away from home several times to follow men prior to the incident.

The suspect has been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation.

The body had been sent to Tawau Hospital for post-mortem and the wood, believed to be the weapon used in the crime, was also seized. - Lagatah Toyos
