Kota Kinabalu: The United Sabah Alliance (USA) denied that it is in a disarray following a tussle for the post of Opposition Leader in the State Assembly. Its Chairman Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor said the alliance does not want to be distracted by any other issue as it is focused on other pressing issues facing Sabah as it prepares for the coming general election."The alliance remains focused. It is not in disarray," he said in a statement here, Wednesday.ADVERTISEMENT Furthermore, he said, Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah President Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin had said that he would relinquish the post of Opposition Leader in the Sabah Legislative Assembly if that is the decision of the alliance. He was alleged to have said this last month after his party and Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah were admitted into the USA."But, as the term of the Assembly is already nearing its end, there is no need for any changes to be made. It is for this reason that no decision was made regarding the post of the Opposition Leader at meetings of the Alliance Council," he said.ADVERTISEMENT The Council consists of Datuk Mohd Noor Mansor as Chairman, the presidents and four other members of each of the five parties, namely Parti Star, SAPP, PCS, Parti Harapan Rakyat and Parti Perpaduan. Instead, he said prior to the Assembly sitting last week, the Council had, on March 21, discussed the matter of the Act 355.

"It was the consensus that Act 355 should not be brought into the Sabah Legislative Assembly as it has been politicised in Malaya to suit their political agenda. This is also the position in Sarawak. Sabah has many other more pressing issues to tackle instead of being distracted by Act 355. Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

"Act 355 is not and should not be imported to Sabah as Sabah has our own Syariah laws. As such, when the Likas assemblyman tried to bring the matter into the Assembly debate, Lajim had to stop him as not only is it in contravention of the Standing Orders, but it would also serve to import from Malaya into the Sabah Assembly a racial and religious issue that is in the form of Act 355," he said.
