PENISANGAN: State PKR Youth Chief Raymond Ahuar rubbished claims that the land applications by eight companies have been revoked, saying it is another Barisan Nasional lie.He said the Government has in fact approved a total of 3,200 acres applied for by the companies.

"I can prove that they have all been issued with land titles," he said.

He also vowed to take up the matter personally to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, who is scheduled to make a working visit to Keningau early next month. Raymond last week disclosed the land applications of eight companies said to be within the excised Mount Mandalom Forest Reserve in Keningau.

He had claimed that the companies applied for a total of 20,703 acres in the area whereas communities can only apply for small plots of land, not individual titles, but under the communal title scheme.

He pledged to collect 1,000 signatures from protesting villagers which he would hand over to Musa during his visit.

Raymond said this in response to a statement by Pensiangan Parliamentary Officer Rayner Udong Thursday that the companies' applications had been revoked.

"Who is Rayner to say that the companies' land applications were revoked? Even Tan Sri Joseph Kurup who has been a Member of Parliament here for so long can't do anything about it," he said.

Raymond, who is also party branch head in Pensiangan, has in his possession all the names of the companies and their land application details. He had questioned the rationale of giving land to the companies whereas the Murut community from eight villages could only apply for a total of 6,005.8 acres (2,430.5 hectares) under the communal title scheme.

He listed the villages as Kg Membulu (252 hectares), Kg Kalampun 2 (379 hectares), Kg Maliyuk (72 hectares), Kg Dalit Laut (217 hectares), Kg Dalit Station (206.3 hectares), Kg Karamatoi Malila (218.5 hectares), Kg Molosok Dalit (409.7 hectares) and Kg Bonor (676 hectares).

"It's sad and unfair that the bigger piece of the land is given out to companies while the villagers can only apply for five acres per communal title participant," he reportedly said.

He proposed that instead of giving out land to private companies, the State Government could offer bigger plots to the community under the scheme instead of just five acres for every participant.

"We still disagree with the communal grant scheme. But in this case, it would be fairer to give every participant between 15 acres and 30 acres under the scheme, instead of the companies.

At least the Murut people can have some kind of ownership to land. If it's given to the companies, they have nothing," said Raymond last week. - Uhim Wong
