'Wrong way' teen driver to be charged with causing death

GEORGE TOWN: The part-time model who allegedly drove against traffic and killed a man on the North-South Expressway will be charged under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987.A police spokesman said Ng Pei Ven, 19, will be charged at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court today (Friday) under the Act for driving under the influence of drugs and causing the death or injury to any persons.

The offence carries a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and RM20,000 fine upon conviction.

Ng could also have her driving licence suspended for a minimum of five years.

On March 17, she was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a maximum of two years' jail sentence and RM5,000 fine upon conviction.

Ng allegedly drove against traffic flow on the North-South Expressway and caused a six-vehicle chain collision at the 134th kilometre of the three-lane expressway, which led to the death of Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, at 7.50am on March 14.
