New Sabah opposition party facing leadership tussle
Published on: Sunday, March 19, 2017

Kota Kinabalu: A new political party, Parti Pertubuhan Perpaduan Rakyat Kebangsaan Sabah (Perpaduan), which will be contesting in the coming 14th General Election (GE14), is facing a leadership tussle between two people claiming to be the rightful president of the party.

Sakamad bin Anas has refuted a statement by one Mohd Baharuddin Pinah that the group is dumping Gabungan, the Sabah-based opposition coalition.

"I am representing the Supreme Council and party members, and we unanimously deny the announcement made by Baharuddin claiming to be the new party president which is unfounded and baseless.

"Baharuddin has not yet been confirmed as a party member," he said, in a statement.

He said the party members have lodged a police report against Baharuddin for allegedly issuing a false statement as the new party president of Perpaduan.

Sakamad said they will also file a suit claiming RM100 million in damages against Baharuddin for "issuing a false statement as the new party president and jeopardising the name and morale of the party."

On Wednesday, Baharuddin, saying he is the newly-elected president, announced that he and the party's supporters have left Gabungan Rakyat Saksama (Saksama) to struggle for Sabah's future.
