Sabah Strongman: 13 finalists

Kota Kinabalu: Thirteen strongmen finalists got down to brass tacks on the opening day of the Fifth Sabah Strongman (Orang Kuat Sabah) competition at Padang Merdeka, here, Saturday. Event coordinator Ahmad Tawfiz said the competitors would be competing in the 'circus dumbbell' discipline and on Sunday the event would start with the bus or truck pull discipline, followed by the 'last man standing' deadlift discipline and the Atlas stone event discipline. The event closing on Sunday would be graced by Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

All in all there will be a total of six disciplines to be contested, including the loading race and tyre flip discipline. There will also be a fun run in the early morning.He said the competition was also a qualifier for the Arnold Strongman Classic Championships for strength athletes to be held in Hong Kong in August this year."There are six Arnold competitions being held worldwide and the top three of each Arnold competition will go to the world championships in the US. If you win in the US, you get invited to compete in the Arnold strongman classic pro show where the least amount of prize money is US$10,000 and the first prize winner gets US$100,000."

According to event organiser Steve Johnny Mositun, the 13 finalists comprised local athletes from Sabah as well as the peninsula and Sarawak with an international participant from the Philippines.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
