Croc attack: Dept obtains clarification from Sandakan farm owner

Sandakan: The owner of the Sandakan Crocodile Farm where a part-time worker was left with a crushed right forearm and a severed leg when attacked by the reptile last Monday has clarified to the Sabah Wildlife Department on the incident.State Wildlife Director Augustine Tuuga said he had met the farm owner to seek explanation on the incident."Investigation is being conducted by the police and the department is not making any comment," he said when contacted Thursday. He said an officer from the department had also visited the victim.

Meanwhile, the crocodile farm has been closed temporarily and a check on the farm at Batu 8 Jalan Labuk here found the main entrance closed.The victim, aged 35, and also a part-time bird carer at the farm, is being treated at the Duchess of Kent Hospital here.The incident happened at 1.45pm at the farm at Batu 8 when the worker tried to pet the reptile after feeding it. The man was rubbing the crocodile on its snout when the reptile suddenly turned on him.

The crocodile farm, which is managed by a private operator and is licensed, is one of the tourist attractions in the district.
