'My Balloon Fiesta' from March 10-12
Published on: Friday, February 17, 2017

Kuala Lumpur: Come March 10, city folks will, for the first time, be treated to a colourful skyline over the cosy neighbourhood of Desa ParkCity.

Thanks to a fiesta themed 'Balloon in the Park', the sky will see a myriad of brilliantly-coloured hot-air balloons of various sizes and shapes in the three-day event dubbed, 'My Balloon Fiesta'.

There will be over 18 hot-air balloons from 10 participating countries at the location after having given the Putrajaya skyline the honours over the past eight years.

"The challenge of hosting the event here in the city can be boiled down to one main obstacle space because balloons need ample unobstructive flat lands, either for display or to be tethered as a ride.

"However, with the understanding and support of many authorities, we managed to bring the excitement of the hot balloons to the city folks from Putrajaya to Desa ParkCity on this year," said AKA Balloon Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nur Izzati Khairudin.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference here Thursday, she said the participating hot-air balloons would comprise special-shaped balloons like 'Rooster from Thailand'; 'Tako II' and 'Happy Chan from Japan', a hatching egg balloon as well as 'Dexter the Happy Flame' from the Netherlands.

"The hot-air balloons will be displayed between 6pm and 7pm, and for the Night Glow Show from 8.30pm to 10.30pm, other countries including India, Vietnam, the Philippines, Belgium, Mexico, Spain and Malaysia," she added.

Nur Izzati noted that last year, the fiesta had attracted over 200,000 visitors in Putrajaya.

"This year, we are expecting 50,000 visitors as our fiesta will be organised in the neighbourhood, whereby the public could have access to the area at 3.30pm," she said.

Nur Izzati said during the three-day fiesta, a demonstration on making hot-air balloon igloos would be featured by Jordi Enrich, an artist from Spain who specialised in recycling old hot-air balloons.

"The balloon igloos are large enough to cater to people and activities inside.

"Besides, 'Silent Disco' and outdoor cinema featuring movies with hot air balloons theme are available for visitors to enjoy, as well as balloon workshop and 360 Virtual Reality Balloon experience within the fiesta grounds," she added. – Bernama
