KEMABONG: The Communication and Multimedia Ministry has approved the construction of additional 14 communication towers in the district, located about 31 kilometres from Tenom town.Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Tun Said said this came about following a discussion between the Tenom District Office and the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

He said Sabahans deserve to have the same Internet facilities as enjoyed by Malaysians in the peninsula.

The programme, he said, is the Government's new initiative where various government agencies and private companies work together and collaborate under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) with the main objective to empower rural folks by giving them access to online delivery systems such as e-kasih, e-usahawan, e-rezeki and others.

The programme also has two important elements, namely digitising and humanising communication delivery service.

Under the programme, the Government will construct infrastructure such as telecommunication towers, high capacity Internet access and digital broadcasting which would benefit the people while humanising the system involves face-to-face communication with rural folks.

MCMC's step to establish a 1Malaysia Internet Centre (PP1M) in Kg Kuala Tomani is a continuous effort to help and develop all layers of society, especially in the rural area, so that they can enjoy Internet and information technology.
