Lahad Datu: Umno will not only fight for the people in the peninsula but also stand up for Sabahan rights.Silam Umno Division Chief Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal said Umno has been fighting for the people of Sabah for 26 years.

He said the issue of Umno being a peninsula-based party should not arise as Umno in Sabah is led by local leaders.

"Every party has its own weakness and, therefore, we need cooperation from the people to inform us (leaders) their needs to ensure that people live in comfortable conditions.

"We will improve and fix the weakness, not to gain people's support, but it is the main agenda of Umno which has been fighting for the people since a long time ago," said Yusof.

He was speaking at the "Kupi-Kupi Datuk Mohd Yusof Apdal with the community" programme organised by Silam Wanita Umno in Kg Lamak, Silam, near here, recently.

Yusof also urged the community leaders to carry out their responsibility without self-interest.

He said community leaders should be fair and not only work to get positions in the party or prioritise their personal interest over the people interest.

"Community leaders should also approach the people so that they could convey their problems and find the best solutions to assist them," he said, adding that the community should also continue strengthening unity as a divided community will not bring any benefit to the people and country.

Meanwhile, Silam Wanita Umno Chief Mizma Appehdullah informed Yusof that the villagers are in need of electricity poles.

In responding to the request, Yusof said he will strive to get the facilities as well as allocations for the jetty in Kg Lamak.
