Consul Chen impressed with CNY celebration in Sabah

Kota Kinabalu: Chinese Consul General in Sabah, Chen Peijie, heaped praise on Sabah for its "culturally exciting and harmonious" celebration of the lunar New Year."The spring festival atmosphere in Sabah is even stronger compared to my hometown in China," said Chen, from Beijing.She said she was especially impressed that not only Chinese but also various other races and ethnic groups in the State are celebrating Chinese New Year.

She said this to reporters during a walkabout in Lido Square, organised by its management company Cara Kaya Sdn Bhd, to extend Chinese New Year greetings to the public and the traders there. Also present were Cara Kaya Sdn Bhd Chairman Datuk Seri Panglima TC Goh, his wife Datin Joanne Ho and Lee Seng Wah, Chairman of the Lido Hawkers Association (Perlido).She was responding to a question on her observations about the Chinese New Year celebration in Sabah compared to China.Chen also disclosed that although this was her first visit to Lido Square since her posting to Sabah more than two years ago, some of her colleagues were nonetheless among the regular shoppers there.
