Sheikh Saidey Nor Sheikh Abdul Rahman, 43, and Sofia Affendi, 42, claimed trial after the charges were read to them before Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias.
Sheikh Saidey was charged with cheating Raja Farhana Raja Ali, 36, by duping her to hand over cheques of RM314,535 and RM282,626.73 purportedly for investments in hotels in Makkah and Madinah.
He was alleged to have committed the two offences at Restoran Remaja Bandar Baru Uda, Jalan Tampoi, between 8.30pm and 11 pm in April 2015.
The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides a maximum jail term of ten years and with whipping, and shall also be liable to fine, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, Sofia was charged with abetting her husband in committing the two offences against Raja Farhana at the time and place.
The magistrate allowed bail of RM90,000 for each accused in one surety and ordered them to surrender their passports to the court.
Feb 7 set for remention.

Meanwhile, in KUALA LUMPUR, a final year civil engineering student at a polytechnic was ordered to be released on a two-year good behaviour bond by the Magistrate's Court here today for stealing a T-shirt from a shopping centre two days ago.
Magistrate Mahyudin Mohmad Som meted out the sentence on Muhammad Amirul Asyraf Raybayi, 22, in accordance with Section 294 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Muhammad Amirul Asyraf had pleaded guilty to stealing the T-shirt, valued at RM59.90, at the Uniqlo outlet, Level 1, Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras, here at 5.20 pm last Jan 8.
