Kota Kinabalu: A doctor has been arrested for allegedly selling stolen goods online. The 31-year-old was nabbed from a private clinic in Sandakan on Nov 30 following the earlier arrest of a house break-in suspect.

Sandakan Police Chief ACP Zabidi Md Zain said the doctor was believed to have bought items from the suspect before marketing them via Facebook and WhatsApp.

"The doctor is being detained pending investigations," he said, adding some of the doctor's buyers have already surrendered the items they bought to the police after realising the origin of the goods.

ACP Zabidi said the break-in suspect, in his 30s, was caught red-handed on Nov 28, just as he broke into an office at Bandar Utama, Mile 6 Jalan Labuk in Sandakan.

Police seized a bag containing housebreaking tools from the suspect at the crime scene, he added.

They brought him to the police station where he was later detained for further investigations.

"The housebreaking suspect is believed to have been responsible for at least 39 such cases in the district," ACP Zabidi said.

"We seized a car driven by the suspect and recovered 139 stolen items comprising television sets, mobile phones, computers, audio systems, CCTV recorders, toy cars, camera, fans, refrigerators, video recorders, bank books, as well as ATM and credit cards," he added.

It is believed the suspect targeted business establishments and offices in various areas in Sandakan.

"He climbs up commercial buildings and gains access to the offices through the roof before escaping through the main door," ACP Zabidi said.

The district police chief attributed the success in the arrest of the two suspects to cooperation from members of the public.
