789 join cycling race in Kota Belud

Kota Belud: A total of 789 cyclists took part in a race in conjunction with the 2016 Kota Belud Tamu Besar (Bazaar), here, Saturday.Event organising chairman Mohd Mustazar Bundah said the 35km race was divided into the men and women's open, men's veteran and men's junior under 15.

"The participation this time was very encouraging and we also received participation from Brunei.

The number of participants was higher than the 500 participants last year," he told reporters after the race here.

Earlier, Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak flagged off the race and bicycled five kilometres with his wife, Datuk Raya Erom.

Also present to enliven the event were national cycling racers, Fatehah Mustapa and Azizulhasni Awang.

Commenting further, Mohd Mustazar said the event was aimed at bringing cycling sport lovers together and promote Kota Belud as a tourist destination.

The men's open category was won by JR Stanly Jalid, with Nicklos Minol and Melvin Michael as the respective runners-up.

The women's open was won by Fang Suk Feng, followed by Felene Moduis (second) and Lidya Konaliau.
