Labuan: Former Sabah's rugby women player, Puan Sri Diana Deigo has been appointed as patron of the Labuan Women Rugby Association. The appointment by the Labuan Rugby Association (LRA) marks a major milestone in the establishment of the association where the patron's role is to define the ethos and the possible appointment of the new line up (committee members) to take the association to greater heights.

"It is an honour for the trust with the appointment as the patron of the association. It is my expectation to see the sports developed further with the cooperation from all parties," she said, Saturday.

The LRA also named next month's 16th edition Ladies Open in the Labuan Rugby Carnival 2016 as Puan Sri Diana Deigo Cup.

"I am very much looking forward to the steps which will now be taken by the LRA in terms of putting in place any related matters on rugby sports development," she said.

Diana Deigo, wife of Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Pandikar Amn Mulia, is also the patron of Sabah Girls Rugby Development Programme.

The Ladies Open in the rugby carnival will also be the platform to scout talents for the coming SEA Games.
