SSMS rule supreme in TNB hockey league

Kota Kinabalu: Sports School Malaysia Sabah (SSMS) ruled supreme in the inaugural TNB Sabah Hockey League on Saturday at the Likas Hockey Stadium where they took both the boys' and girls' titles.Their boys Under-14 team defeated SMK Likas 4-1 in the final with goals from Mohd Haziq Asyraaf Berahin, Muhd Izaz Afdhaal , Muhd Salman Sudirman and Jallister West Anak Ranggie while Tengku Ariff replied for SMK Likas.Third place went to SMK Agaseh from Lahad Datu who beat SMK Tamparuli 3-1 in the play off.

The sports school girls' team also had a comfortable final when they beat SMK Tun Fuad 3-1 to take the title.The three goals were scored by Felliana John, Nurekhmah Najwa Sopian and Aina Ruzana Mohd Azlan and the goal from SMK Tun Fuad was netted by Mercyassisi Tonny.The play-off for third and fourth place between SMK Abaka and SMK Telupid was decided by penalties after both team tie 1-1 after the full time whistle.The following shoot-out saw SMK Telupid converted three while their opponent only managed one.

The four-day competition which was organised by the Sabah Hockey Association saw a total of 17 team throughout Sabah took part with nine boys' team and eight for the girls who were champions in their respective districts.Sabah Sports Board general manager Penyuki Matta gave away the prizes. Also present was complex manager Wilfred Young.
