PBS reiterates call for power-sharing guideline

Keningau: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) on Saturday reiterated its call for a clearer guideline on power sharing among the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.Its Deputy President Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili stressed that to date, no proper guideline on power distribution has been provided despite numerous calls made by the party at its congresses."Matters related to power sharing remain as one of the unresolved issues, and it is frustrating the grassroots.

We need to address this issue before the next general election to win the people's support," said Ongkili at the 31st PBS Sook Division annual general meeting at the Handicraft Foundation Centre, here.At the event, Ongkili, who is also Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, also disclosed that apart from power sharing, PBS has been vocal on several other pertinent issues, such as the State's security, Sabah's rights and development projects."As a federal Minister, I am duty-bound to raise issues affecting Sabah…we all want better security for the State. Millions have been spent to improve the security measures but still, cross border crimes such as kidnapping are still happening.

"This is not good for the country's image. It reflects failures and inefficiency. We need to feel safe at our own home," he said.On Sabah's rights, Ongkili stressed that it was nothing new and that no one knows about the issue better than PBS.

"We have been championing Sabah's rights for so long. Neighbouring Sarawak has been very vocal on this issue as well, and we should also voice out our views. We cannot be silent."We are in sync with Sarawak and are looking at similar sentiments. We also want what they are asking for. But we all need to stay united to have a bigger voice," he said.In another development, Ongkili noted that poverty in Sabah can be eradicated through proper and planned development."Basic infrastructures such as better road access are important to boost the economy in Sabah, benefiting locals along the way."Our leaders, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, have been working hard to ensure development reaches East Malaysia."And we can ensure continuous development with the support from the people to the ruling government," he said.Meanwhile, Ongkili also advised PBS party leaders, from the branch to division levels and top leadership, to continue working hard, ahead of the general election."We must continue to take good care of our constituents.
