Check certs of job applicants with MQA, employers urged

Kuala Lumpur: Employers are advised to refer to the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to check the certificates of job applicants to avoid being cheated by fake diploma and degree, which has become rampant lately. Higher Education Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang such a method was meant to identify whether the higher learning institutions (IPT) involved were accredited under MQA in terms of quality and standards.

"Do not simply hire an employee.

Every recruitment agency or employer must check first with MQA whether the IPT exists or not.

"They also need to check the name of a programme to find out whether it (the course) is offered at the IPT involved as stated on the diploma or degree of the candidates who were looking for job," he said here, Saturday.

Zaini advised any recruitment agency or employer to lodge a police report if they were came across job applicants who submitted fake papers.

This followed media reports on fake diploma and degree which could be easily bought online by those desperately looking for jobs or in need of good pay.
