Kota Kinabalu: Boasting the best in aesthetics, amenities and groundbreaking sustainability, The Precinct by Norup+Wilson is taking apartment living in Perth to soaring heights.NORUP+Wilson's latest project in Mount Pleasant, Perth, is reimagining apartment living. The Precinct is being designed and created as a multi-level, ultra-premium community - the likes of which Perth has never seen before.

The 22-storey development integrates community facilities with private living areas to create a healthy, secure and inspiring environment with resort-style features.

"It's one thing to put units in a high-rise configuration and just call it a community, but how do you actually create a community?" says co-director John Norup. "It's about living and interaction. It's about the use of space within the building."

Great thought and attention has been given to every aspect of The Precinct to ensure that each element excels in form and function. The communal facilities, in particular, have been designed to be beautiful, functional and useful.

"Most pools in apartment complexes do not get used," John says.

"We have designed distinct zones of use and the pool is in a private area away from the lounges, gym and barbecue areas.

"Similarly, in nearly all apartment complexes, barbecue areas do not get used. We've designed bar-height teppanyaki with bar stools surrounding the stone top around the cooking plate. There's a kitchenette near the area that will have everything you need for the barbecue, and even a bocci pit to have a play on while you're waiting for the steak to cook."

This is just a snapshot of the facilities on offer. The Precinct will also have an indoor-outdoor gym area with a running track, alongside a steam room, toilets and lockers, plus cabanas to relax in after a workout.

A generous-sized communal lounge on the facility deck even includes a library.

"All these elements combine to make space that will actually be used. It will be vibrant and full of activity," co-director Dave Wilson adds. The ground floor of The Precinct has been designed as an entertainment hub with a range of restaurants and cafçs.

"We have even designed a dumbwaiter in the building. We believe this is a first in Australia and it enables you to order food to your apartment floor, pool deck or the lounges," Dave continues. Levels three to 16 have apartments with one, two or three bedrooms in a variety of configurations. The ultra-premium Sky Homes take up the next four floors, leaving the top floor for the Sky Lounge, which is reserved for the exclusive use of the owners of the 24 Sky Homes.

"It has some amazing facilities including your own personal fridge, wine wall and glass storage area, a private dining room, and a terrace, which can hold a private function of up to 30 people and has its own kitchenette," Dave says.

The penthouse-quality Sky Homes include theatre cabinets, a feature cabinet wall to the master suite, electric blinds and sheers, speakers to the living room, filtered water, condensate dryers, a built-in barbecue to the balcony with stone top, timber-veneer entry doors, and many other extras.

On the lower floors, the one, two and three bedroom apartments are finished to the highest possible specification.

"Apartment living is all about space. Extra-large balconies are key to the space. The high ceilings create greater height to cupboards, which provides more storage space. The flow between rooms achieved by 2.4m-high internal doors.

We use high-quality fixtures and fittings - for example, Grohe taps, Villeroy & Boch basins and Blum soft-closers are standard in every apartment," John says.

The Precinct at Mt Pleasant is breaking the mould of apartment living, creating an iconic building for Perth.

"We aim to create buildings that become a landmark for the area they're in, and are sought after for many years to come as the address to live in. This ensures all purchasers get good appreciation on their asset, while living in one of the most hi-tech, luxurious apartments in Australia - maybe even the world," adds John.

The Precinct will be holding its maiden showcase in Kota Kinabalu on July 2 and 3. Brought to you by the developer, Norup+Wilson, in collaboration with H. Simon Real Estate, a local Malaysian real estate agency, the event will be held at the Ground Floor, Meeting Room 4, Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort from 10am to 6pm daily. There will also be a talk on migration which will happen at 2pm daily.
